In September 2018, photographer Laura Liss-Riordan, who previously worked for The Associated Press and The New York Times, said she was planning to leave the newspaper after a few years and focus on the commercial side of her job.
In September 2019, she said, she was approached by an online ad for a Virginia wedding photography job.
“I got a call from a man who told me he wanted to see if I’d be interested in being a wedding photographer, but I was told it wasn’t going to happen,” she told the BBC.
“The offer was made to me through an email address that had my email address.”
Liss was offered a full-time position in the next few months, but said the offers for other jobs were “very low” compared to her current position.
Liss, who is in her mid-40s, was working for the Associated Press in New York for nearly a decade before leaving in October 2019.
She said she started her freelance career at The New Yorker in the 1990s as a photography assistant, but it was in 1999 that she moved to Washington, DC, to pursue her professional career.
“It was a time of enormous change in the city and the country,” she said.
“As a photographer, you have to go through a huge amount of work and time to make a living.
I think it was time to get out of Washington and go somewhere that I could start making a living.” “
You can’t say no to that.
I think it was time to get out of Washington and go somewhere that I could start making a living.”
Lisker has since graduated from the University of Virginia and works as a senior editor for the Washington Post.
She also runs her own business, the website The Washington Post Wedding Guide, which is dedicated to helping wedding photographers and other wedding photographers to find their own unique path.
“Wedding photography is a very special profession that requires an extraordinary amount of dedication,” Liskers website reads.
“Our goal is to help you find your niche and find the right partner in your unique wedding photography adventure.”
Lisler said she has received offers to work for the White House and the White Houses Office of Public Engagement, but that none of those offers have been confirmed.
“There are so many different photographers and they are all very different.
We do have a couple that are already booked for the future and we’re working to secure their spots,” she explained.
“If they’re interested in coming to Washington and working in the White house, we’ll see.
If not, we’ve got other places we’d love to work.”
Lisfer has also started to post on Facebook about her plans to leave her job and become a full time freelance photographer.
“We need to find a way to take back our freedom to do what we love and to travel the world,” she wrote.
“When the opportunity arises, I am looking forward to sharing the next chapter of my life with my wonderful wife and kids.”
A spokesperson for the Office of Press Secretary said in a statement to the BBC that the Whitehouse’s office has not been in contact with Lislers current employer.
“While the WhiteHouse has not heard from Laura, the White, House of Representatives, and the Department of Justice are working together to address any issues related to Laura Liskering,” the statement said.
The Washington Free Beacon has reached out to Laura and the Washington Department of Commerce, which has not yet responded to the outlet’s request for comment.
